Την επικύρωση της βαθμολογίας, όπως είχε διαμορφωθεί μετά το 50ο Ράλλυ Κύπρος που διοργάνωσε τον Οκτώβριο ο Κυπριακός Σύνδεσμος Αυτοκινήτου, αποφάσισε η FIA χρίζοντας πρωταθλητές στο Πρωτάθλημα Ράλλυ Μέσης Ανατολής 2023 (ΜΕRC), τόσο τον Nasser Αl-Attiyah, όσο και τον Abdullah Αl-Rawahi. Αυτή είναι πρώτη φορά στην ιστορία του Μεσανατολικού Πρωταθλήματος που ο τίτλος μοιράζεται σε δύο οδηγούς.
Oι δυο τους ισοβάθμησαν στους 108 βαθμούς, μετρώντας δυο νίκες, δύο δεύτερες θέσεις και από μία αποχώρηση. Η απόλυτη ισοβαθμία κρίθηκε στο νησί μας με τον Αl-Attiyah να τερματίζει πρώτος (30β.) και τον Αl-Rawahi δεύτερο (24β.), γεγονός που τους έφερε μαζί στην πρώτη θέση.
Για τον Al-Attiyah, ο οποίος είναι ο πολυνίκης του Ράλλυ Κύπρος κερδίζοντας τον εθνικό μας αγώνα οκτώ φορές (2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2023), είναι η 19η φορά που στέφεται πρωταθλητής, ενώ για τον Αl-Rawahi είναι ο πρώτος τίτλος στην καριέρα του. Πέραν τον αγώνα στην Κύπρο, ο Αl-Attiyah είχε κερδίσει και στην πατρίδα του το Κατάρ, ενώ ο ανερχόμενος Αl-Rawahi πήρε τις νίκες στην πατρίδα του στο Ομάν και την Ιορδανία. Ο πέμπτος αγώνας στο Πρωτάθλημα Ράλλυ Μέσης Ανατολής πραγματοποιήθηκε στο Λίβανο.
O Al-Attiyah ήταν δεύτερος σε Ομάν και Ιορδανία και ο Αl-Rawahi δεύτερος σε Λίβανο και Κύπρο.
Μετά το Ράλλυ Κύπρος, ο νικητής Αl-Attiyah, στις δηλώσεις του είχε αναφέρει ότι το δίκαιο θα ήταν ο τίτλος να μοιραστεί ανάμεσα σε αυτόν και τον Αl-Rawahi, κάτι που έγινε μετά τη σύσκεψη της ειδικής επιτροπής, η οποία αποτελείτο από τους Σεΐχη Abdullah Al-Khalifa (Αντιπρόεδρος για τον αθλητισμό στη Μέση Ανατολή), Jarmo Mahonen (Πρόεδρος της Επιτροπής Ράλλυ), Petter Solberg (Αντιπρόεδρος της Επιτροπής Οδηγών), Hayden Paddon (πρώην οδηγός του WRC και νυν πρωταθλητής του ERC) και τους Jérôme Roussel και Andrew Wheatley ως αντιπρόσωποι του τμήματος Ράλλυ της FIA.
Η εξαμελής επιτροπή κατέληξε στην απόφαση να μοιραστεί ο τίτλος ελέω της έλλειψης σχετικών κανονισμών και κριτηρίων για την ανάδειξη νικητή. Στην ανακοίνωση της απόφασης της FIA, μεταφέρθηκε και η πρόταση για τροποποίηση των κανονισμών, προκειμένου να αποφευχθεί στο μέλλον παρόμοιο περιστατικό και να είναι ξεκάθαρα τα κριτήρια για ανάδειξη του νικητή.
Σύμφωνα με την πρόταση, η οποία προτάθηκε από τους Petter Solberg και Hayden Paddon και θα τεθεί ενώπιον του Παγκόσμιου Συμβουλίου Μηχανοκίνητου Αθλητισμού τον Δεκέμβριο, ο πρωταθλητής θα κρίνεται ανάλογα με το αποτέλεσμα του τελευταίου γύρου του πρωταθλήματος, μετά του προτελευταίου και ούτω καθεξής.
Για τον Al-Attiyah είναι ο τρίτος τίτλος FIA που κερδίζει το 2023 FIA World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC) και το FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas.
